What We Teach
Shelter, Water, Fire, Food
In our classes your child will learn about the sacred order of survival: Shelter, Water, Fire, Food, and will make deep contact with the Earth through games, stories and hands on projects. These classes will invite you to use all of your senses to connect with nature and each other. We will explore topics from the sacred order of survival, depending on the interests of the group, the weather, and the energy of the location:
Shelter: using materials from the landscape and the principles of shelter.
Water:explore methods of finding and purifying water. Water is the life blood of Mother Earth. Our bodies are between 50~75% water depending on many different factors. It's the same water that circulates between us and the trees and the plants and the rain. We are all connected through water.
Fire:We use fire everyday to cook and heat our homes, but most of us are very disconnected and unfamiliar with how fire acts and responds. It's a primal tool and companion that all of our ancestors knew how to make using friction. Fire can spark joy and empower a person. You learn a lot about yourself by making fire with friction.
Food:Tracking, baskets, weapons, traps, edible, medicinal and utilitarian plants; the list for what nature can teach us about food is endless.
Shelter
We mentor children to be more comfortable in nature, and in themselves. As humans we belong on Earth and knowing how to live outside is empowering.
Awareness
We mentor children to use all of their senses, to feel the heat of the fire, to smell the smoke and the rich soil, to realize how all of our actions affect everything else.
